Let's talk Transport Wheels! Over the past five years the popularity of transport wheels has exploded and I'm here for it! "Transport Wheels" aka "Transit Wheels" are a budget friendly way to achieve the oversized steelie look on these old C10s. They get confused with Detroit Steel Wheels all the time because they look very similar. So I want to dive into some of the frequently asked questions.
What are Transport Wheels?
Transport Wheels are installed on late model Chevrolet's to transport them from the manufacturer to dealerships around the world. Once the vehicle arrives, the transport wheels are removed and replaced with chrome, alloy, or another factory wheel.
I heard they were unsafe and not road-worthy?
This is something that is shared a lot by people that are not educated about the wheels. Although the wheels are not designed to be driven on, they are stamped DOT directly on the wheel. Thousands of people have driven on these wheels for long periods of time. If you do hit a huge pothole, they can bend. (like any other wheel) I believe they are 100% safe.
Where can you purchase them?
You cannot purchase these wheels directly from the manufacturer or the dealership. The only way to purchase them is to find them on Facebook Marketplace or have a connection with someone who can get them. I try to keep a few sets at all times. Click here to purchase a set.
Do they fit my C10 without modification?
The short answer is not exactly. The middle of the transport wheels are smaller than the drum brake on most C10s. You will need to enlarge the middle of the wheel by using my SIMPLE.BORE KIT. This kit bolts to your wheel and comes with the correxct size hole saw to bore the middle of the wheel to the correct size. If you have a disc brake coversion kit then the front wheels will fit but the back will still need bored. If you are only static dropped, you will need to run a 1 inch spacer on the back. If you bore your rear wheels with factory wheel tubs then they will rub because of the backspacing. Suggestion for people that are currently on drums and are going bags later. Bore your front wheels to fit over the drums and use the spacers in the back. When you do the disc brake conversion and bag the truck, swap the non bored wheels on the back with the bored wheels on the front and everything will fit. This will allow you to run the wheels now, then swap them later without issues.
How do you install hubcaps on the Transport Wheels?
I offer a SIMPLE.CLIPS KIT that allow you to install hubcap clips to your wheels. With the clips installed you can use any 10.5" dogdish hubcap on your wheel. This kit will not work with any other size hubcap without fabrication. I also offer a selection of hubcaps on the website. Check them out here.
In this video, I will go step-by-step through how sand, prep, paint, bore, and install hubcaps on your transport wheels! To achieve this look, I used rattle can paint and Simple.Clips to install hubcaps!

Hi Travis, I have a 61 Apache. Plan on doing your air ride drop kit front and back with transport wheels. What size tires are a perfect fit to get that low profile wide look?

I can’t tell you how happy I am to come across your videos. You give it to us step by step, making it obtainable, affordable, and inspirational. I’ve been lost for years trying to motivate myself to do something, but I typically find my not knowing what to do or where to start. Sincerely, thank you for sharing
